Mehsana Buffalo is the outcome of cross breeding between Surti and Murrah species of buffaloes. This breed of animal has been named after Mehsana district located in Gujarat. Also referred as Mehsani, this breed of animal is notable for its black body color. It has bright eyes. Per lactation Mehsana Buffalo produces 598 kg to 3597 kg of milk. Fat content of produced milk ranges between 5.2 % to 9.5%. Females of this species of animal have 565 kg weight and males have 484 kg weight on an average. Intercalving period of this species of buffalo ranges between 450 days to 550 days.
